இ CAT STEVENS, I Love My Dog|I'm Gonna Get Me A Gun|Wild World|Peace Train|Mornin Has Broken|Where Do..|Father & Son|

Cat Stevens (born Steven Demetre Georgiou, 21 July 1948 aka Yusuf Islam ), is a British musician of Greek Cypriot and Swedish ancestry. He is a singer-songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, educator & philanthropist.

Cat Stevens, in part because a girlfriend said he had eyes like a cat, but mainly because he said, "I couldn't imagine anyone going to the record store and asking for 'that Steven Demetre Georgiou album'. In 1966, at age 18, he impressed manager/producer Mike Hurst, formerly of British vocal group The Springfields, with his songs and Hurst arranged for him to record a demo and then helped him get a record deal. The first singles were hits. "I Love My Dog" charted at #28, and "Matthew and Son", the title song from his debut album, went to #2. "I'm Gonna Get Me a Gun" reached Britain's Top 10, and the album Matthew and Son itself began charting. The original version of the The Tremeloes cover hit, "Here Comes My Baby", was written and recorded by Stevens.

As Cat Stevens, he has sold over 60 million albums around the world since the late 1960s. His albums Tea for the Tillerman and Teaser and the Firecat were both certified as Triple Platinum by the RIAA in the United States; his album Catch Bull at Four sold half a million copies in the first two weeks of release alone, and was Billboard's number-one LP for three consecutive weeks. His songwriting has also earned him two ASCAP songwriting awards in consecutive years, for "The First Cut Is the Deepest," which has been a hit single for four different artists, and has been instrumental for others in establishing their musical careers.

Having established a signature sound, Stevens enjoyed a string of successes over the following years. 1971's Teaser and the Firecat album reached number two and achieved gold record status within three weeks of its release in the United States. It yielded several hits, including "Peace Train", "Morning Has Broken" (a Christian hymn with lyrics by Eleanor Farjeon), and "Moon Shadow". This album was also certified by the RIAA as a Multi-Platinum record in 2001, with over three million U.S. Sales through that time.

Stevens converted to Islam at the height of his fame in December, 1977. The following year, he adopted his Muslim name Yusuf Islam, auctioned all his guitars away for charity in 1979, and left his music career to devote himself to educational and philanthropic causes in the Muslim community. He has been given several awards for his work in promoting peace in the world, including 2003's World Award, the 2004 Man for Peace Award and the 2007 Mediterranean Prize for Peace. In 2006, he returned to pop music, with his first album of new pop songs in 28 years, entitled An Other Cup.He lives with his wife and children in London, and spends part of each year in Dubai. இ CASCADES, All The Way To Yesterday|Interview with Dante Luzon in Manila

Started as the 'Silver Strands' in 1960, then to the 'Thundernotes' and finally in 1962 changed the name to 'The Cascades' - apparently inspired by a box of detergent. 'Rhythm of the Rain' was written by band member John Gummoe (born 2 Aug 1938, Cleveland, Ohio). The song rose to #3 in the US Billboard Chart in 1963 and it also took the whole world by storm and became a 'titanic flood' inundated more than 80 countries.

இ CASCADES, Rhythm Of The Rain

Have been listening and singing "Rhythm Of The Rain" since I was a boy without even knowing the band's name not until today. Oh my gosh, it's 'The Cascades'! Anyway I am not alone many of my friends are not aware of the band's name too.

இ BROTHERHOOD OF MAN, United We Stand|Save Your Kisses For Me

Brotherhood of Man are a British pop group who won the Eurovision Song Contest in 1976 with "Save Your Kisses for Me". Managed by songwriter Tony Hiller, the group were formed in 1969 and scored a worldwide hit with "United We Stand" the following year. By 1974 the line-up had changed to the quartet Brotherhood of Man would become most famous for. The group became successful in Europe, before returning to do the same in the UK. After winning the Eurovision Song Contest in 1976, Brotherhood of Man enjoyed three years of hit singles and albums.

Following a decline in sales, the group split, but reformed two years later and are still together today, performing shows throughout Europe. They remain a successful live act in the UK and have occasionally released independently-produced albums. The group had already recorded a second album and had been released in several countries a year previously. Following their victory, Pye released the album with "Save Your Kisses for Me" added. Entitled Love and Kisses, the album was a success in the UK, reaching the top 20, as well as other countries, gaining a No.6 position in Norway for instance. [wikipedia]

இ BRIAN HYLAND, Sealed With A Kiss|Ginny Come Lately

What more can I say, "Sealed With A Kiss" was one of the most popular song 'kissing' every jukebox in coffee shops wayback in 1962. Not too sure it was 10 cents per three records to 'feed' the jukebox. Have done a few selections and comparison of the music videos but somehow prefer this older version by 'SarAlexRipper506070' , as we can hear the intro music and harmonica, real cool (making a wild guess here) 'A-go-go' dancing? Awesome!!!! Nostalgic...

இ BRIAN HYLAND, Itsy Bitsy Teenie Weenie Yellow Polka Dot Bikini|Gypsy Woman|

Brian Hyland born November 12 1943 in New York, started singing with a harmony group, the 'Delfis' at age 14. "Itsy Bitsy Teeny Weenie Yellow Polka Dot Bikini" 'dotted' #1 in the Billboard pop chart in 1970 and became his first and biggest single hit at a tender age of 16.

He has been instrumental in starting a volunteer EMT Foundation who is responsible for training of new EMTs. இ BONNIE TYLER, Total Eclipse of the Heart

In 1970 a husky Welsh teenager, Bonnie Tyler (born Gaynor Hopkins on 8 June 1951) aged 19 then, competed in a talentine contest and won second place and that's her 'turn around' to stardom. A blessing in disguise for her throat surgery in 1976 to remove the nodules (small knotty node, ganglion not noodles ok!), which made her voice even more huskier thus created a greater impact, coined as the female version of Rod Steward. Four weeks after 'Total Eclipse of the Heart' was released in 1983, it hit the ceiling with over 5 million records sold which 'eclipsed' Michael Jackson's 'Billie Jeans' from top of UK charts speading over to Europe and US to reach #1. Phew! Awesome!

Bob Dylan (born Robert Allen Zimmerman on May 24, 1941) is an American singer-songwriter, author, poet, and painter, who has been a major figure in popular music for five decades. Much of Dylan's most celebrated work dates from the 1960s, when he became an informal chronicler and a reluctant figurehead of American unrest. A number of his songs, such as "Blowin' in the Wind" and "The Times They Are a-Changin'", became anthems of both the civil rights movements and of those opposed to the Vietnam War.
Throughout his career, Dylan has won many awards for his songwriting, performing, and recording. His records have earned Grammy, Golden Globe, and Academy Awards, and he has been inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame and Songwriters Hall of Fame.
[excerpt from Wikipedia]
"How many times must a man look up
Before he can see the sky
How many ears must one man have
Before he can hear people cry
How many deaths will it take till he knows
That too many people have died
The answer, my friend, is blowing in the wind"

இ BLOOD SWEAT & TEARS, I Love U More Than U'll Ever Know|U've Made Me So..|Spinning Wheel|And When I Die|So Long Dixie|Go Down Gamblin|Hi De Ho|

Blood, Sweat & Tears (also known as "BS&T") is an American music group, originally formed in 1967 in New York City. Since its beginnings in 1967, the band has gone through numerous iterations with varying personnel and has encompassed a multitude of musical styles. What the band is most known for, from its start, is the fusing of rock, blues, pop music, horn arrangements and jazz improvisation into a hybrid that came to be known as "jazz-rock". Unlike "jazz fusion" bands, which tend toward virtuostic displays of instrumental facility and some experimentation with electric instruments, the songs of Blood, Sweat & Tears merged the stylings of rock, pop and R&B/soul music with big band, while also adding elements of small combo jazz traditions.

The band was a hit with the audience, who liked the innovative fusion of jazz with acid rock and psychedelia. After signing to Columbia Records, the group released perhaps one of the most critically acclaimed albums of the late 1960s, Child Is Father to the Man, featuring the Harry Nilsson song, "Without Her", and perhaps Kooper's most memorable blues number, "I Love You More Than You'll Ever Know". The album cover was considered quite innovative showing the band members sitting and standing with child-sized versions of themselves.

"Blood, Sweat & Tears" was the name chosen by Al Kooper, inspired by both the 1963 album with this title by Johnny Cash and after a late-night gig in which Kooper played with a bloody hand.

Blood, Sweat & Tears, the group's self-titled second album, was produced by James William Guercio and released in 1969. The album was much more pop-oriented, featuring decidedly fewer compositions from within the band. The record quickly hit the top of the charts, winning Album of the Year at the Grammy Awards over The Beatles' Abbey Road, among other nominees. Blood, Sweat & Tears spawned three major hit singles: a cover of Berry Gordy and Brenda Holloway's "You've Made Me So Very Happy" (US #2), Clayton-Thomas' "Spinning Wheel" (US #2), and a version ofLaura Nyro's "And When I Die" (US #2). The commercial and critical acclaim enjoyed by the band in 1969 culminated in an appearance at theWoodstock Festival, in which the band enjoyed headliner status. [wikipedia]

They were then signed to independent label Enigma Records where they had their first significant hit: the controversial synth-driven "Sex (I'm A...)" (1982), which was banned by some radio stations due to its graphic lyrics. Later "Take My Breath Away" (from the movie Top Gun) became their best-selling single in 1986 and a huge international hit. They had two other hits: "The Metro" and "No More Words", whose subsequent video saw Terri Nunn and bandmates re-enact a Bonnie and Clyde style car chase and shoot-out.

And the moon is the only light we will see
No, I won't be afraid, oh, I won't be afraid
Just as long as you stand, stand by me
So darlin', darlin' stand by me
Oh stand by me
Oh stand, stand by me, stand by me

Or the mountain should crumble to the sea
I won't cry, I won't cry, no, I won't shed a tear

இ BELINDA CARLISLE, Mad About You|I Feel The Magic|Heaven Is A Place..|I Get Weak|Circle In..|Runaway Horses|Leave A Light..|Big Scary..|Lay Down..|

Belinda Jo Carlisle (born August 17, 1958) is a Grammy Award-nominated American singer. Belinda was born in Hollywood, California, is the lead vocalist and a founding member of the all-female new wave band The Go-Go's and also a solo artist. At school, Belinda became a cheer leader. At the age of 19, she left home with the confidence that one day she would be a star that she later became. Carlisle's first venture into music was a brief stint as drummer for the punk band The Germs, under the name Dottie Danger. Soon after leaving The Germs, she founded The Go-Go's (originally named The Misfits), with friend and fellow musicians Margot Olaverria, Elissa Bello, and Jane Wiedlin. Olaverria and Bello were soon out of the group and the new line-up included bassist-turned-guitarist Charlotte Caffey, guitarist-turned-bassist Kathy Valentine, and drummer Gina Schock.

The Go-Go's broke up in 1985, and Carlisle embarked on a solo career (although she continued to work with fellow Go-Go Charlotte Caffey). After the excesses of the Go-Go's years Carlisle underwent a period of physical recuperation and image remodelling emerging as a modern young Californian female. Carlisle's first album, Belinda, was still released on I.R.S. Records, in 1986. This album was successful in North America and was certified Gold in the U.S. And Platinum in Canada. Her summer hit "Mad About You" peaked at #3 in the U.S., topped the Canadian Singles Chart and charted in the top 10 also in Australia. "Mad About You" was followed by the Motown-influenced single "I Feel the Magic", and by a cover version of the Freda Payne song "Band of Gold".

*Ooh, baby, do you know what that's worth ?
Ooh heaven is a place on earth
They say in heaven love comes first
We'll make heaven a place on earth
Ooh heaven is a place on earth

When the night falls down I wait for you
And you come around and the worlds alive
With the sound of kids on the street outside

When you walk into the room
You pull me close and we start to move
And we're spinning with the stars above
And you lift me up in a wave of love...
*
When I feel alone I reach for you
And you bring me home when I'm lost at sea
I hear your voice and it carries me

In this world we're just beginning
To understand the miracle of living
Baby I was afraid before
But I'm not afraid anymore
*
{Talking about heaven I'm on Cloud 9 now. Lovely song!}

The first release from Heaven on Earth was "Heaven Is a Place on Earth", which topped the single charts, not only in the U.S., but also in the UK and in several other countries (the dance mix of the song also topped the dance chart). The radio-ready song was further propelled by a video, directed by Academy Award-winning American actress Diane Keaton.

The second single from the album was "I Get Weak", which shot to #2 in the U.S. and #10 in the U.K. The song was written by Diane Warren. The third single from the album was "Circle in the Sand," another Top 10 hit in the U.S., the UK, and Germany.

Carlisle's follow-up to the success of Heaven on Earth was Runaway Horses, released on October 23, 1989. The album hit the Top 5 in both Australia and the UK, certified double platinum in Australia and platinum in the UK and in Canada, but failed to reach similar success in the U.S. The first release, "Leave a Light On", peaked at #11 in the U.S., and became another Top 5 smash in the UK, Australia and Canada.

Carlisle's fifth solo album, Real, was released in 1993, on the Virgin label, in the U.S. and in Europe. Produced without Nowels, the disc was a departure from Carlisle's polished pop music formula. Even the album's cover photograph featured her with very little make-up. Carlisle co-produced and co-wrote much of the disc, collaborating heavily with friend and former Go-Go's member Charlotte Caffey. The album reached #9 in the UK, and its first single, "Big Scary Animal", peaked at #12 in the UK. The second single from Real was "Lay Down Your Arms", which made the Top 30 in the UK. Gregg Alexander of the New Radicals co-wrote the single Here Comes My Baby.

இ BEE GEES, How Deep Is Your Love

The world lost another great musician , a very talented multi-instrumentalist who played keyboards, bass, percussion and songwriter, Maurice Gibb (1949-2003) better known as 'Mo' by the Gibb brothers who died of complications resulting from intestinal malrotation. Following his death his surviving brothers Robin (twin brother of Maurice) and Barry announced that they would no longer perform as "Bee Gees".

இ BEE GEES, Staying Alive

Maurice once said "One of us is OK, two of us is pretty good, but the three of us together is magic".

இ BEE GEES, I Gotta Get A Message To You

"In 1958 the Gibb family from Manchester, England emigrated to Redcliffe in Queensland, Australia. In their younger days the brothers already began performing where they could raised pocket change. Started off with band names like 'The Rattlesnakes', then 'Wee Johnny Hayes & the Bluecats' until they were introduced to radio DJ Bill Gates by racetrack promoter Bill Goode (who saw them perform at Brisbane's Speedway Circuit). Gates renamed them the 'Bee Gees' after his and Goode's initials - thus the name was not specifically a reference to 'Brothers Gibb' despite popular belief."[excerpt from wikipedia].
